Techtimeout Tuesday Returns For A National Digital Wellbeing Pause

Techtimeout Tuesday 2025
Date: 2 December 2025
Challenge: Spend one hour offline

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England has announced its renewed partnership with Techtimeout Tuesday, the UK’s national day dedicated to digital wellbeing, set to take place on 2 December 2025.

The annual initiative encourages individuals and workplaces to take at least one hour away from their digital devices, promoting what organisers call “Connected not Consumed” — a chance to recharge, reconnect, and reset amid the pressures of constant digital communication.

MHFA England says that supporting digital wellbeing is now essential for maintaining both performance and wellbeing in a fast-paced, always-on working culture. The organisation highlights growing concerns over digital overload, pointing to frequent notifications, back-to-back online meetings, and blurred boundaries between work and home as major contributors to stress and burnout.

Taking part in this awareness day is a powerful way to:

  • Prioritise employee wellbeing with a simple but meaningful action
  • Encourage real-world connection among teams and individuals
  • Lead cultural change by modelling balance in a digital-first world
  • Raise awareness around how tech use impacts mental health and performance

According to MHFA England, even a single screen-free hour can help improve focus, reduce stress, strengthen relationships, and support healthier work–life balance — benefits the organisation believes are fundamental to high-performing teams and thriving workplaces.
This year’s campaign invites participants to choose from three “Connection Pathways”: connecting with colleagues through screen-free activities, spending uninterrupted time with friends or family, or taking time alone to reflect, rest, or enjoy nature. The aim, organisers say, is to create space for whichever type of connection brings clarity and calm.

MHFA England Chief Executive Sarah McIntosh emphasised the importance of digital wellbeing as part of employers’ wider mental health strategies:

“Technology is embedded in almost everything we do at work, but it can blur the boundaries between professional and personal lives.

Research from the CIPD shows that more than a third of employees struggle to switch off outside working hours. That’s why prioritising digital wellbeing is so important. We’re proud to support Techtimeout Tuesday again this year and encourage organisations across the country to pause, unplug, and reset.”

Participating organisations will have access to a free digital toolkit, including posters, activity ideas, and planning resources to help teams get involved.
